Our Deluxe Whitewater Tubing Trip is the easy button. Pagosa Outside introduced shuttled river tubing to Pagosa Springs and has spent years refining the equipment, routes and logistics that turn a simple float into a really good river day. Reserve your departure time, park at our Main Street shop and show up ready to get wet. We handle the shuttle, purpose-built whitewater tube, PFD, river shoes, changing rooms, lockers, secure key storage and FREE digital trip photos. We choose the best starting point for current flow, so you get a longer trip through Pagosa’s river corridor without having to figure out the route or transportation yourself. And the shuttle happens before the fun. Your float finishes back in downtown Pagosa near our shop, your vehicle, dry clothes and the Hippy Dip hot springs. Stay by the river or soak in the hot springs for a while if you want. There’s no return shuttle to miss and no wet ride back across town—you’re on your own schedule. If tubing is part of your Pagosa day, we’ve already figured out the hard parts.

Itinerary

Park in our off-street parking right at the shop on Main Street. Arrive with enough time to change, apply sunscreen, use the restroom and get fitted with your included river gear. We have purpose-built single, double and XL whitewater tubes, and we’ll help get you set up with the equipment that makes sense for your group and the river conditions. Changing rooms and lockers are included, or simply leave your extra belongings in your vehicle and let us securely hold your keys while you’re on the river. Please complete your online waiver before arriving. The link is included in your confirmation and reminder emails. Be completely ready to meet your Driver/Photographer and load the shuttle at your scheduled departure time.

At your reserved departure time, your Driver/Photographer takes you upstream to the day’s tubing put-in. Along the way, you’ll get an overview of the river section, important features and practical tips we’ve learned from decades of tubing the San Juan. The exact route can vary with river conditions. That’s intentional—we use the section providing the best tubing experience at the time.

From the put-in, the river portion of the trip is self-guided. Expect real moving water: current, rocks, pools, drops and whitewater. At lower flows, navigating the deepest channel becomes part of the fun. At higher tubing flows, the river gets faster, splashier and more demanding. This is never a lazy-river float.

Your trip finishes in Pagosa’s downtown river corridor, only a short walk from our Main Street shop. Want to hang out at Hippy Dip hot springs for a while? Go for it. There’s no return shuttle you need to catch and no reason to stand around wet waiting for a ride back. When you’re ready, walk across Main Street to Pagosa Outside for your dry clothes, vehicle and whatever comes next. Still grinning and want another lap? Ask us. When shuttle space allows, we’ll do our best to get you back upstream.

Pagosa Outside’s Deluxe Whitewater Tubing Trip is your complete Pagosa Springs river tubing experience—built around years of running the San Juan, improving the equipment and figuring out the details that make your day easier and more fun.

Your trip includes the scheduled upstream shuttle, purpose-built whitewater river tube, PFD, river shoes, changing rooms, locker access, secure key storage and FREE digital trip photos.

The river portion is self-guided, so you still get the freedom and fun of tubing the San Juan on your own. We simply take care of the parts that normally require local knowledge, extra gear and another vehicle.

Better Tubes Matter

When we started developing shuttled whitewater tubing in Pagosa, the recreational tubes available weren’t built for what we needed.  So we worked with whitewater raft manufacturers to develop stronger, purpose-built tubes designed for rocks, current, rapids and repeated commercial use.  Today we offer single, double and XL whitewater tubes so guests get reliable equipment built specifically for an actual river. They’re burly, comfortable and ready for the San Juan.

When the next rock is part of the adventure, the tube matters.

Local Knowledge Is Part of the Trip

The San Juan changes throughout the summer—and that variety is part of what makes tubing here so much fun.  Some days are lower, warmer and more technical, with more maneuvering around rocks and river features. Other days bring faster current, bigger splashes and a more continuous ride.  That’s why we adjust the trip to the river instead of forcing the river into one fixed trip.

Our Main Street shop sits near the downstream end of Pagosa’s tubing corridor, which gives Deluxe one of its simplest advantages.  When your float is over, you’re already back in downtown Pagosa near Hippy Dip, your vehicle and dry clothes. No return shuttle to wait for. No schedule telling you when to leave the river.  Hang out. Soak. Dry off. Head to lunch.

Because when you finish tubing, you’re essentially back where you started. Pagosa Outside is on Main Street at the downstream end of the tubing experience, with off-street parking right at the shop. You don’t have to finish your trip and then sit wet waiting for a shuttle ride back. Take your time. Hang out at Hippy Dip hot springs. When you’re ready, walk across Main Street to the shop, grab your keys and dry clothes, and get on with the rest of your Pagosa day.
Yes. The San Juan has moving current, rocks, drops, rapids and deeper pools. Participants should be competent swimmers in cold, moving water and prepared for the possibility of flipping or coming out of their tube and self-rescuing.
No. The river portion of the Deluxe Tubing Trip is self-guided. Your Driver/Photographer gives you an overview of the route and practical information before dropping you at the put-in. From there, navigating the river is part of the experience.
River time varies with water level, route and how efficiently you move through the current. Rather than build Deluxe around a rigid number of minutes or miles, we use the section providing the best experience under current river conditions. For most guests, one complete trip down the San Juan gives them exactly the tubing experience they came for. And because you finish near the shop rather than catching a scheduled ride back, you don’t need to rush your river day to fit a return-shuttle clock.
Often, yes. Most guests come back from one complete river trip thoroughly satisfied with their tubing fix. If you finish wanting another lap and we have room on an upcoming shuttle, just ask. We’ll do our best to get you back upstream. Additional runs aren’t always guaranteed, but they’re most often available. If the next shuttle is full, it may simply mean catching the next one. We’ll do what we can to help you get the tubing experience you came for.
Dress to get wet. Swimsuits, sun shirts and other quick-drying clothing work well. Your river shoes and PFD are already included. Bring sunscreen and anything you want after the river, including dry clothes. The easiest approach is to leave anything you don’t need on the river in your vehicle. You’re parked right at the shop, and we’ll securely hold your vehicle keys while you tube. Want your phone for selfies or video? Use a waterproof phone case. Bring your own or add one to your reservation and we’ll have it waiting at check-in.
Absolutely—but assume anything you take tubing is going to get wet. A waterproof phone case lets you capture your own selfies and video while keeping your phone protected and attached to you. Keep it simple. You’ll park right in front of our shop, so the easiest option is usually to leave anything you don’t need on the river in your vehicle. We’ll securely hold your vehicle keys at the front desk while you tube, and lockers are also available if you prefer one. Take as little as possible on the river.
Yep. Your Driver/Photographer captures photos during the trip, and your digital trip photos are included at no additional charge. Enjoy the river. We’ll get the pictures.

The important question is less about a specific age and more about water confidence. Tubers should be competent swimmers who are comfortable in cold, moving water and prepared for the possibility of coming out of their tube. Kid-size PFDs and purpose-built double tubes give us more options for families, but parents should still consider current river conditions and their child’s swimming ability and comfort around moving water.

Your Departure Time Is Go-Time

Your scheduled departure time is when you should be completely geared up and ready to load the upstream shuttle. Arrive with enough time beforehand to change, apply sunscreen, use the restroom and get fitted with your included gear. Please complete your online waiver before arriving.

The Ride Back Is Just a Walk Across Main Street

The scheduled shuttle gets you to the river. At the end, you’re already back in the downtown corridor near Pagosa Outside. Take your time at Hippy Dip if you want. When you’re finished, just walk across Main Street back to the shop. No return-shuttle schedule. No wet wait. Don’t take anything tubing that you would hate to lose in the river!

This Is Real River Tubing

The San Juan is moving whitewater—not a controlled lazy river. Expect rocks, current, rapids, splashes and the possibility of coming out of your tube. That unpredictability is part of what makes tubing in Pagosa fun.
