Pagosa Springs Rafting Trips on the San Juan River 2017-07-15T18:29:34+00:00

May and June are the prime time for whitewater rafting on the San Juan River in Pagosa.  Warmer weather and earlier peak flows than the rest of the state makes Pagosa an early season whitewater destination.  River flows typically peak in late May or early June and rafting enthusiasts know that this is when to find the biggest whitewater thrills.  In mid June when the average high temperatures rise and river levels start to drop, the trips become more family friendly and have less of a whitewater focus. We offer five different trips on the San Juan right in downtown Pagosa.

River Bend:

“The Splash & Dash”

This quick intro to rafting is a great trip for just testing the waters or those on a very tight itinerary.  A relaxing start a few miles above Pagosa is followed by fun splashy rapids through the downtown Pagosa whitewater park.  This trip takes 1.5 to 2 hours, including transportation time to and from the river.

  • Difficulty – Easy
  • Length – 4.5 miles
  • Duration – ¼ Day, 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Launch Times – 9:00 & 2:00 (at low flows we have additional launches at  12:00 and 4:00)
  • Price – $39 adults,  $29 kids 10 and under
  • Requirements – 50 lb min. (30 lb min. at low flows)

Mesa Canyon:

“The Family Favorite”

Our most popular raft trip launches just a few minutes upstream from our shop.  Splashy whitewater, gorgeous scenery, and abundant wildlife make this half-day escape from civilization a fun float for the whole family.  Bring water and a snack for the short stop halfway through the canyon.  This trip takes 3.5 to 4.5 hours depending on water levels.  Check out our Mesa Canyon video.

  • Difficulty – Easy
  • Length – 15.5 miles
  • Duration – 1/2 Day, 3.5 to 4.5 hours
  • Launch Times – 8:30 & 1:30
  • Price  – $69 – adults  $54 – kids 10 and under
  • Requirements – 50 lb min. (30 lb min. at low flows)

West Fork:

“High Country Adventure”

The action begins immediately after putting on at our private river access just above the confluence of the East and West Forks.  Smaller boats and aggressive paddling are required for a safe descent of this technical and busy section of river.  Due to popular demand, we have extended the trip by 4 miles to include a finish through the downtown whitewater park.   We run these trips in a limited capacity for safety and to minimize impact, so book early to reserve your spot!  Check out the West Fork video.

  • Difficulty – Intermediate
  • Length – 13 miles
  • Duration – 1/2 Day, 3 to 4 hours
  • Launch Times – 8:00, 1:00

Start with paddling instruction on a pond, move to a mellow stretch of river to learn the basics, and finish on the rapids downtown to test your new skills.
